Auto Glass Repair in Fairhill, Right on Germantown Avenue

Five minutes, because we are in it. The shop is at 3115 Germantown Avenue in the 19133, so Fairhill is our own neighbourhood rather than a service area. Open 7:30 to 4:00 weekdays. Call 215-608-1108.

Auto glass for Fairhill drivers

Fairhill is where the shop is, and that changes the relationship. People here do not book us the way you book a stranger across town. Somebody walks round the corner with a bag of glass they swept off the seat, tells us which car it is and comes back in the afternoon. That is most of a normal day for us. It also means we know what these blocks do to a car, because the same blocks do it to ours.

The neighbourhood is dense, it is busy, and it works. Fifth Street is a shopping street with cars stopping and pulling out all day. American Street is an industrial corridor with trucks on it. Lehigh Avenue crosses everything. Most of the housing is rowhouse, most of the parking is kerbside, and a fair number of the vehicles are working vehicles: vans, pickups, cars used for deliveries and for jobs. That mix produces two kinds of glass work in roughly equal amounts, side and rear windows broken overnight and windshields chipped in traffic and then left too long. Both are quicker to sort out when the shop is a few streets away. Ring 215-608-1108, or just come by between 7:30 and 4:00.

North Fifth Street is the commercial spine, busy from the morning, with double-parking, deliveries and cars pulling out of angled spaces all day. Lehigh Avenue crosses it and carries the crosstown traffic east toward Front Street and west toward Broad. American Street runs parallel to Fifth as a wide industrial corridor, built for trucks, with a rough surface and heavy vehicles turning into yards. Front Street sits under the elevated line, which means steel columns down the middle, narrowed lanes either side and permanent shadow. Germantown Avenue cuts up through the top of the neighbourhood on the diagonal, and that is where we are, on the 3100 block just below Allegheny Avenue. The side streets between them are narrow, one-way and parked solid on both sides.

“I had a great experience with this glass replacement company. They were quick & very professional throughout the process, and the pricing was extremely reasonable compared to others I contacted. The work was done efficiently and the quality was top-notch. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for affordable and reliable glass repair or replacement!”

Local Conditions

What cracks glass around Fairhill

One: overnight break-ins. Dense parking, long unattended hours and a lot of kerb per lit window means rear door glass goes regularly, and it goes in seconds. Two: American Street and the yards off it, where loaded trucks on a rough surface throw stone hard, so the windshield chips we see from those blocks tend to be deep rather than superficial. Three: the traffic on Fifth. Stop-start driving, tight passing, doors opening and delivery vans reversing is how mirror glass and quarter windows get taken out at walking pace. Four: leaving a chip through a winter. Cars here sit outside, ice up, get the defroster on full and a scraper across them, and that is the sequence that turns a $60 to $130 job into a $250 to $450 one.

FAQ

Auto glass in Fairhill — questions, answered

Can I just turn up without calling?

You can, and people do. The one thing calling first gets you is certainty about the glass: we keep common windshields and a lot of side glass here, but if your car needs something specific it may be a next-day order, and we would rather tell you that on the phone than after you have sat down. Ring 215-608-1108 with the year, make, model and which piece of glass it is. We are open 7:30 to 4:00, Monday to Friday, closed at the weekend.

It happened Friday night. What do I do until Monday?

Tape and a bin bag, and park it somewhere you can see it. Cut the bag to size, tape it to the paint rather than the rubber if you can, and take anything worth having out of the car, because an obviously broken window invites a second visit. Do not run it through a car wash and do not use the window switch. Call us first thing Monday on 215-608-1108 and a common side window is normally done the same day at $200 to $500 fitted.

Do you clear the glass out of the door?

Yes, and it is most of the job. Tempered glass shatters into thousands of pieces that fall down inside the door skin, into the window channel, along the seat rails and into the heater vents. We take the door card off and vacuum the cavity, because glass left in there rattles, jams the regulator and drops back into the channel later. A window fitted over a dirty cavity is a comeback, and comebacks are expensive for us.
