Four minutes is the drive from most of Fairhill to 3115 Germantown Avenue, and a windshield is $250 to $450 fitted with about an hour of work before the safe drive-away time starts. We are in 19133 ourselves, so this is the shortest trip anybody makes to us. Drop it when we open at 7:30 and in most cases the car is ready long before the middle of the day.

Cut an old windshield out of a car that has spent twenty years in this part of the city and you find out what the last fitter did. The pinchweld is the flange of body metal the glass bonds to, and it is the only thing holding the pane in a collision. Done properly, the old urethane is trimmed back to a thin, even layer, any bare metal is primed, and the new bead goes onto a clean, sound surface. Done in a hurry, someone scraped down to raw steel, skipped the primer, and laid fresh urethane straight onto it. A few winters of road salt later there is rust creeping under the bond line, and the pane is being held on by less than the owner thinks.
So on older cars, and Fairhill keeps a lot of good older cars on the road, the first thing that happens after the pane comes out is a proper look at that flange. Light surface corrosion gets cleaned and treated before anything is bonded to it. Serious rust gets pointed out to you honestly, because bonding a new windshield over a flaking flange is putting a good part on a bad foundation, and we would rather have that conversation with the car open than sell you a screen that leaks in eight months. Once the metal is right, the rest is routine: primer, one continuous bead with no cold joint, the pane set, new mouldings, and a specific drive-away time for the day.
“Excellent job and great professional service. Dropped my car off 8am and it was done within two hours. Pricing for my window replacement was the most reasonable in the city of Philadelphia. Highly recommend.”

Being in the same ZIP code changes what this job looks like. Plenty of Fairhill customers do not drive over at all: somebody walks in from a block off 5th or Lehigh, describes the car, gets the price, and brings it round the next morning. That short trip is worth using. A windshield with a long crack in it is far better moved four minutes at twenty-five miles an hour than left on the street for another fortnight while it grows, and being local means we can usually see the vehicle before committing to a part rather than working entirely from a phone description. It also means that when a pane has to be ordered, you are not making a wasted journey to find out. One walk in, one drive over, done.

In most cases yes, and it is common on cars of a certain age around here. Light corrosion on the pinchweld is cleaned back and treated before any primer or urethane touches it, which adds a little time and nothing to the price. Where the metal has actually perforated or is flaking in layers, we will tell you straight, because a bond is only as good as what it is bonded to. That is a body repair first and a glass job second, and we would rather say so than hide it under a new pane.
Comprehensive cover usually includes glass, but replacement almost always runs through your deductible while a chip repair frequently does not. That is why insurers are so willing to pay for a fill: it is a fraction of what a replacement costs them. Give us your policy details and we will bill the insurer directly where the cover allows it. If the deductible is higher than the $250 to $450 the job costs, we will point that out rather than put you through a claim for nothing.
Tell us the vehicle and the glass that's damaged — you'll see your price instantly, and we'll hold it for you.
