Windshield and Auto Glass Repair for Manayunk

Twenty to twenty-five minutes across the city, or the van comes to you. Manayunk is roughly seven miles from the shop and its cars have two distinct problems: stone collected on the Schuylkill Expressway, and kerbside knocks from parking on hills far steeper than they look. Chip fills are $60 to $130, windshields $250 to $450 fitted, side and back glass $200 to $500. Call 215-608-1108.

Auto glass for Manayunk drivers

Manayunk parks on a slope. The streets climbing away from Main Street are steep enough that people leave the wheels turned into the kerb out of habit, and cars are wedged into spaces laid out when vehicles were narrower. That geometry produces a particular kind of glass damage: mirror glass clipped by something coming down the hill, quarter windows meeting a wall or a fence post while reversing on an incline, and door glass caught by a car door swung open on a gradient.

The other source is entirely different. The Schuylkill Expressway runs along the bottom of the valley and it is where most of the chips come from. Patched concrete, trucks and a lot of lane changing put stone into windshields all year, and a chip collected there sits unnoticed until a frosty morning on Ridge Avenue finishes it off. Because Manayunk is a longer run for us than our own neighbourhoods, the sensible thing is a phone call first. Tell us on 215-608-1108 what the car is and what has happened, and we will say whether the van is coming to you or whether it is worth the drive across. Either way the price is agreed before we start, and we are working 7:30 to 4:00, Monday to Friday.

Main Street runs along the valley floor beside the canal and the river, narrow, busy in the evenings and lined with parked cars and deliveries. Ridge Avenue is the road above it and the one that actually gets you out of the neighbourhood toward the city. Between them the streets climb hard: Levering, Lyceum, Green Lane and the roads off them go up at gradients that stop being amusing when it is icy, and they are narrow, parked on both sides and often one-way as a result. The Schuylkill Expressway runs along the far bank with its ramps close by, and the towpath and rail line take up the space between Main Street and the water. There is very little off-street parking anywhere except the newer buildings.

“I had a great experience with this glass replacement company. They were quick & very professional throughout the process, and the pricing was extremely reasonable compared to others I contacted. The work was done efficiently and the quality was top-notch. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for affordable and reliable glass repair or replacement!”

Local Conditions

What cracks glass around Manayunk

One: the Expressway. Nearly every chip we fill on a Manayunk car came off I-76, where patched concrete, heavy trucks and constant lane changing throw stone hard and you rarely hear the one that gets you. Two: the hills. Parking, reversing and passing on a steep, narrow street with cars on both sides is how quarter glass, mirror glass and door glass get taken out at low speed, and it happens far more here than anywhere flat. Three: winter on a gradient, because ice on a slope means wheels spinning and grit spread heavily, and grit gets thrown at glass. Four: the Main Street evening, with busy kerbs, doors opening into traffic and cars packed tight, which is a good recipe for a door glass that meets a mirror.

Getting Started

Reaching us from Manayunk

Ridge Avenue is the direct line: follow it out of Manayunk toward the city, past Wissahickon, and stay on it until you reach Lehigh Avenue, then take Lehigh east across Broad Street to Germantown Avenue and turn north-west up the Avenue to 3115. Twenty to twenty-five minutes. If you would rather use the Expressway, come off at Girard Avenue, take Girard east to Broad, north on Broad to Allegheny Avenue and east to Germantown Avenue. It is not a short trip either way, which is why a lot of Manayunk customers have the van come to them instead. Call 215-608-1108 and we will tell you which we would do.

FAQ

Auto glass in Manayunk — questions, answered

Can the van work on a hill?

It can, within reason, and it is worth being honest about the limits. A moderate slope is fine; a steep one is not, because the car needs to sit still and level enough for the glass to be set correctly and for us to work at it safely. If your street is one of the steep ones, the usual answer is to move the car to a flatter block nearby for a couple of hours, or to bring it down to the shop. Tell us the street when you ring 215-608-1108 and we will know.

How long can I drive on an Expressway chip?

Until the next cold snap, usually, and that is not a plan. Chips spread on I-76 because the glass is flexing constantly over patched concrete while the temperature inside and outside differ. Get it filled while the break is clean and small: $60 to $130, about half an hour, and it keeps the factory seal that was fitted with the car. Once it has run out into a crack, particularly to the edge of the screen, only a replacement at $250 to $450 will do.

Do you cover Roxborough and the top of the hill too?

Yes. The van covers that whole side of the city, and the drive to the shop is much the same from up on the hill as it is from Main Street, because you are joining Ridge Avenue either way. What changes is parking rather than distance: houses up the hill are more likely to have a driveway or an off-street space, which makes a mobile job straightforward. Ring 215-608-1108 with the address and the car and we will book it.
